Betting on the Football Over / Under Goals Market

Goals are our bread and butter here at BetDynamo and there is decent money to be made by figuring out which games will have lots of goals in them. The following guide will tell you exactly how to do that.

The best way to use this data to pick winners

Step 1: Check our Insights page

The Insights section is a good starting point to quickly see the games with the most goals predicted. From then you can drill down on the games that take your fancy.

Below is a screenshot of the insights, you will see the % likelihood of there being Over 1.5 and Over 2.5 goals respectively, and also BTTS. When the data reaches the threshold for a tip it is displayed in green.

Now, let’s assume that you like the look of Atlanta United v Toronto in MLS, you can see that there is a 95.45% chance of there being O1.5 Goals and a 73.87% chance of there being O2.5 Goals. This is worked out by using the averages from the games that both sides have been involved in thus far this season.

You can click on the team names to take a closer look at their individual stats. This brings us on to Step 2.

Step 2: Check the individual team Stats

We recommend looking at the individual team stats as well as the insights page as it helps to offer more context and will allow you to make a more of an informed decision.

So, carrying on the Atlanta United v Toronto example, if you click on Atlanta then this brings up the team stats for them, shown below on the left of the screenshot.

Looking at this we can see that Atlanta have seen Over 1.5 Goals in 100% of their home games this season, and Over 2.5 Goals in 75%.

We can also see that they have only failed to score in 8.33% of home games and have only kept a clean sheet in 16.67% of home games. This tells us that it’s highly likely that they’ll both score and concede a goal when playing at home, and helps to back up the tips on the Insights page of O1.5 Goals, O2.5 Goals and BTTS.

The other stat which is important to consider is the Team Goals. We can see here that Atlanta have scored O1.5 Team Goals in 66.67% of their home games, and O2.5 Team Goals in 58.33% of their home games.

Let’s now have a look at the stats for Toronto away games.

We can see that 90.91% of games they’ve been involved in have had O1.5 Goals and 72.73% have had O2.5 Goals.

They’ve only kept a clean sheet in 9.09% of away games and have failed to score in just 18.18% of away games. When you compare these stats to Atlanta’s then you can safely draw the conclusion that neither side can defend and both love a goal.

This takes us nicely on to Step 3…

Step 3: Picking the bet

Taking all the stats into account there are a few different bets that can be placed with confidence. Some are more risky than others so let’s examine them further…

Over 1.5 Goals: This is highly likely to come in so the odds aren’t great. We always think it’s best to use these to build accas, combining a few O1.5 Goal tips will produce higher overall odds.

Over 2.5 Goals: Based on the stats this looks like a solid bet, odds can fluctuate on this market and it can produce some good value. To take it one step further, you can also work out the bookie’s implied probability and use this to compare with our % likelihood to try and find some value.

Over 2.5 Goals and BTTS: Only some bookies will offer this market and it may mean you have to use a bet builder or same game multi tool but it’s a way to increase the odds if both teams have a high chance of both scoring and conceding, like in Atlanta v Toronto’s case.
