Christophe Galtier’s Lille welcome Frank Lampard’s Chelsea to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Wednesday night for their Champions League Group H match. Both teams lost their opening matches against Ajax and Valencia respectively and will be looking to kickstart their campaign here. Who can grab the honours?

Lille vs Chelsea Betting Tips and Predictions: Lille

Lille took a bit of a hammering at the Johan Cruijff Arena a fortnight ago, it was all over around the hour mark; they were 3-0 down and had only had two shots on goal. They took a hammering in the French press too and have responded by going on a run of three matches without defeat.

So far this season has gone fairly well for Les Dogues, they’ve only lost twice in their eight league matches and are fourth in the table, two points behind Nante. They’re going to need to pull off something special here though, taking on a Chelsea side full of talent. Beating the likes of Strasbourg and Angers isn’t anywhere near the calibre of what the Premier League has on offer. Saying that though we must point out that at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy their form is outstanding, they’ve only lost three times in the last 15 home matches in all competitions.

In team news Timothy Weah, yes, son of George, is out but apart from that Galtier has a full squad. Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has struck up a great striking relationship with former Newcastle and Chelsea man Loic Remy. Osimhen has six goals in eight matches so far this season.

Lille vs Chelsea Betting Tips and Predictions: Chelsea

Chelsea look like they’re coming back to their best over the last few matches. Over the previous weekend they beat Brighton & Hove Albion pretty comfortably thanks to goals from Jorginho and Willian. Prior to that they put seven goals past lowly Grimsby Town in the League Cup and were unlucky not to get a draw when Liverpool came to town before that.

In their last Champions League match too they were unlucky not to get a draw with Valencia, they had more shots on goal, more possession and, crucially, missed a penalty in the dying stages of the match. Lampard has entrusted in youth this season and even though there have been hiccups it looks like it’ll pay off. When it all comes together they can be ruthless, beating Wolves 2-5 away from home and that Grimsby match, however, that inexperience that comes with youth was evident against Valencia.

In team news, Chelsea’s injury list is as long as your arm. It includes: Olivier Giroud, Ngolo Kante, Kurt Zouma, Emerson, Antonio Rüdiger, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Marco van Ginkel. Some of these may feature or at least get on the bench, but check the team news closer to kick off as Lampard still has to have his press conference at the time of writing.

Lille vs Chelsea Betting Tips and Predictions: Tips and Predictions

The Asian Handicap line opened at 0.25 and has moved to 0.5. The market had very much favoured Chelsea to beat that line. The 0.5 line opened with Chelsea -0.5 at 2.11, it’s falling and is currently at 2.07. The goal line opened at 2.5 and has seen a good bit of movement. Over 2.5 has gone from 1.97 to 1.88.

Both teams need a win here and are in good goal scoring form. Over 2.5 at 1.88 is too low for us, so we’re going with Over 2.75 at 2.10.
