There are many things to take into account when gambling or seeking football betting tips. We’ve all spent countless hours searching for the edge needed to get one over the bookies or the latest trick to ensure you’re top of the league table in your fantasy league.

The truth is, you need to be disciplined when it comes to betting on football. It’s particularly true in top flight football leagues including the Premier League as it’s truly where anything can happen.

We’ve decided to put together our top tips for giving you every advantage when making football bets.

1. Learning the difference between your heart and head when betting

We’ve all been there. We truly believe the club we love dearly is going to do it this time, but quite often it just doesn’t work out that. The bookies love this and rely on fans making purely emotional football bets. The bookies can often jack up the odds to tempt you even more, and many see this as an easy way to make money.

Stick with your head and be sure to stay away from huge derby games in leagues such as the Premier League or La Liga. We all know anything can happen, that’s why we love the sport.

2. Make sure you understand the football leagues you’re betting on

The temptation is always there on the lower leagues. For example, the lower Scottish football leagues can be very lucrative for those who know what they’re betting on. However, time and time again, punters will add random teams from various football leagues to boost their odds.

The reality is, we must be sure of the footballing statistics behind each team. We must also know the team news, such as player injuries, before making a bet. The bookies rely on you not doing due diligence.

3. The favourite is not a guaranteed win

Upsets do happen, we all know this and it’s prevalent in the Premier League as much as anywhere! Do not become trapped in a dogma and start hugely backing favourites in football games, even if you’re dead sure they’re going to win.

A staking plan is needed and must be stuck to. We talk more about the staking plan we use when betting on football in another article.

4. Shop around, do not stay loyal to one bookmaker

A huge mistake punters make is sticking to one bookie. This is exactly what the bookies want you to do and it’s why they spend so much money on branding.

It’s worth signing up to various large bookmakers and having all their odds to hand on your mobile device. You’ll be shocked to learn how much of a difference there can be with odds.

You must be pragmatic and open to using different bookmakers when betting on football across various leagues.

Bookmakers are not loyal to you and will suspend your account if you start to win too much. Bear this in mind and be smart when choosing who to bet with.

5. The less, the better when betting

It’s no secret, bookies hate big singles wins, it’s where they lose most of their profit and it’s for a reason.

A solidly planned football bet, using the correct statistics and league or team knowledge, is always a better bet than a huge 20 game padded out accumulator.

If you’ve got the time, spend it building your knowledge for on one or two leagues and then bet on what you’re most educated about – do not sit there guessing and counting on luck. It’s time to get smart.

6. Football statistics for betting

Perhaps the holy grail. The bookies, for the best part, use years of football statistics that they’ve collected in order to produce their odds. Sure, team news has an impact but by large part, it’s the statistics which drive the odds offered.

The bookies do not want you to see the statistics they have, as it enables you to make wise decisions and play them at their own game.

Crawling statistics for hours at a time can be both daunting and tiresome. That’s why we went ahead and created www.betdynamo.com

We’ve created easy to read data sheets which show the percentage of times a certain event has happened during the current season. You’ll be able to see stats such as Over 1.5 Goals, Both Teams To Score, the lucrative corners market and much more!

7. Pick the right moment

Part of any winning football betting strategy is to know when to bet and when to not. A large part of this is making sure the odds are decent and worth betting on.

As previously mentioned, compare bookmakers and spot odds which seem to be higher than others. For example, if Manchester United are set to play Watford in the Premier League and Manchester United’s odds of winning are 1.40 (2/5) at two bookmakers but 1.85 (17/20) at one, you’d most likely consider the 1.85 (17/20) bet a good value bet and an opportunity that doesn’t come by so often.

It’s about seeking the opportunities out there and understanding value. With football statistics to hand, multiple bookie accounts and discipline, you’ll find those value bets in no time.

8. Know your limits when gambling

It’s extremely important to know your limits when gambling. It should always be fun, and never a cause of stress. If you’re becoming stressed when gambling, you’re gambling way too much.

Stick to a staking plan, tell yourself a hard limit and stick to it. If you set yourself a budget of £50 each month, do not go over it. As we’ve discussed throughout this article, it’s about being disciplined when betting on football.
