Mark Robin’s Coventry City get their Championship season off to a start with a home game against Chris Houghton’s Nottingham Forest. Forest have won four of the last five meetings between and Coventry have been nothing short of awful over their preseason friendlies. Let’s get into the stats and look for some possible value.

Coventry vs Nottingham Forest Betting Tips and Predictions

Coventry have lost all four of their preseason games, all of which were played away from home. Coventry will at least be playing their games this season in Coventry after finally reaching a deal that sees them return to the Ricoh. They’re still playing on going ahead with a new stadium but hopefully the off-field shenanigans won’t be too much of a distraction this season.

Nottingham Forest had a decent preseason, winning one and drawing the other of their three games. They played decent teams too; Port Vale, Northampton Town and Crew Alexandria. In Coventry’s defence they took on higher ranking teams; Sevilla and Wolves amongst them.

Coventry vs Nottingham Forest Betting Tips and Predictions

Coventry finished last season with a great run of form to put some further distance between themselves and those who got caught in some trouble below them. Of their final eight Championship matches they won five, drew one and lost two. Forest ended their season in pretty bad form, it seemed to many fans that they’d decided to finish the league earlier than the rest of the teams but in fairness to them they’d been bottom of the table when Chris Houghton took charge and he steered them to safety.

Of Forest’s last eight games they only won two, drawing four and losing two. As previously mentioned above Forest have won the majority of recent matchups however we must note that the teams have only met twice over the last nine seasons so we shouldn’t pay too much attention to results that go back so far.

Coventry vs Nottingham Forest Betting Tips and Predictions

Coventry’s recent league form is certainly superior to Forests and Forest may well struggle for goals this season. They’ve not exactly been busy bringing in new players in the transfer window so and they really did struggle for goals last season, only scoring a total of 37 which was lower than all of the relegated clubs. No doubt Coventry City will be glad to be back playing in front of their home crowd after the last few seasons but will this have an adverse effect? Will they be too nervous, you’d certainly hope not. Forest’s struggles for goals are swinging us here towards Coventry who finished last season with that impressive run. We’re going for a home win for the Sky Blues in this Championship opener.
