Previews

Argentina and Brazil face off against each other for the Copa America title on Saturday night/Sunday morning. Argentina will be hoping to land their 15th title, drawing level with Uruguay’s leading record while Brazil, playing on home turf of course, will be vying for their 10th title. Both teams are in pretty good form going into this final, Argentina are now on a run of 19 matches without defeat while Brazil have gone 13 without a loss. Who will come out on top here? Let’s delve deeply into the stats and form and find some value in what will be the 108th Argentina vs Brazil match.

Argentina vs Brazil Betting Tips and Predictions

In the beginning of the tournament many thought that Argentina were going to be in for an underwhelming competition after drawing their first Group A match with Chile. Since then they’ve played five, winning four and drawing one, winning it on penalties. Over their six games they’ve scored a respectable 11 goals and have conceded just three. Most impressively of all, they’ve managed to keep three clean sheets over those six games. Not a bad record for a South American competition at all.

Brazil have won five and drawn one over their six games so far. Selecao have scored 12 goals so far, conceding just three and have gone one better than Argentina as their clean sheets record stands at four. Indeed much has been made of Brazil’s solid defensive line of late, over their last 13 undefeated matches they’ve kept 10 clean sheets. Against Argentina though it looks rather unlikely they’ll add to that impressive record.

Argentina vs Brazil Betting Tips and Predictions

Will this be Argentina captain Lionel Messi’s final Copa America? Messi is the leading goalscorer in the competition with four goals so far. At 34 years of age he’ll probably still be around for the Qatar World Cup but should Argentina leave Brazil with what will be their 15th Copa America title then it’s highly likely he won’t be playing at the next Copa in Ecuador.

Of course this is one of the oldest sporting rivalries in football history; there have been 107 matches played between the pair with Argentina winning 39, Brazil winning 43 and there have been 26 draws. Over those 107 matches there have been 325 goals with an average of just 3.04 goals per match. Both Teams to Score, currently priced as high as 2.20 with some bookies, already looks like a good shout.

Argentina vs Brazil Betting Tips and Predictions

There are two reasons as to why the odds are so high at the time of writing. Number one being that both teams have really shown their defensive strengths over the tournament. Secondly, as mentioned already above, Argentina have only conceded three goals so far, the same stat goes for Brazil.

The sides have met five times over the last five seasons and the results make for some interesting reading. Over 2.5 goals was seen in just one match and Both Teams to Score wasn’t seen in any. Brazil won three while Argentina won the other two. Does BTTS still make for a good bet? Well, this is a final and both teams are going to have to go for it. There’s not much point in trying to get to penalties as both squads are pretty much as good as the other, although you could make an argument that Brazil’s has more flair. It’s a risky pick but with the players that both have in their respective squads it should come in.
