Portugal vs Germany Betting Tips and Predictions

Previews

Portugal currently top Group F thanks to beating Hungary 0-3 in their opening game on Tuesday last. Germany were, of course, 1-0 losers to France in a game they dominated but failed to score in. Portugal are now in the driving seat in the Group and the way the Euros are set up this time around they could even qualify for the next round should they lose their next two matches. A win though would see them through to the next round with a game to spare. Germany obviously need to go for it here and they’re going to have to be sharper against a Portuguese side who have one of the best defences in world football. Let’s take a deep dive into the stats concerning both teams and see if we can find some value in the markets.

Portugal vs Germany Betting Tips and Predictions

Portugal are enjoying a great run of form of late, the reigning European champions have only lost one of their last 15 games, winning 10, drawing four. Germany’s form is decent, although not as good. Over their last 10 matches they won five, drawing two and losing three.

While most of Portugal’s wins can be put down to them having a very strong defensive spine in the team there have still been plenty of goals. Seven of their last 10 matches have seen Over 2.5 goals occurring, they scored a very healthy 26 goals over those 10 games and conceded just six. There’s plenty of goals in this German side too, they’ve netted 20 goals over their 10 most recent games but the problem for Germany is that they’re leaking goals too, conceding 15 over those 10 matches.

We know what you’re thinking; Both Teams to Score then? Currently you can get odds up to 1.90 which is certainly a decent price for two teams showing such healthy stats. Can we do better though?

Portugal vs Germany Betting Tips and Predictions

There are a few possibilities, Both Teams to Score No Draw and BTTS & Over 2.5 Goals. The current odds for BTTS, No Draw are around 2.95 with some bookmakers and basically it’s an easy bet, we’d need both teams to score and one of the teams to win. Both teams don’t have many draws, Portugal have had four over their last 10 games while Germany have had just two.

Over 2.5 goals has the lower price, 2.40, but we prefer the look of it here. As mentioned above, Over 2.5 goals has landed in seven of Portugal’s last 10 matches and in six of Germany’s last 10. The onus will be on Germany to attack here and it’s hard not to see both scoring at least one. Indeed, it’s hard to imagine both not scoring two. BTTS No Draw is a good bet but we can’t rule out the possibility that Portugal would probably settle for a draw and that’s what’s putting us off backing that one.
