12th placed Manchester United face a stern test when they welcome first-placed Liverpool to Old Trafford for what will be the 95th meeting between the oldest of rivals in English football. United’s season has been nothing short of awful, the last match they won was against Rochdale in the League Cup where they needed penalties, they’ve had two draws and a loss since then. Liverpool coming to town couldn’t come at a worse time for United and many a pundit are saying this could be manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s last game in charge if he doesn’t at least get a draw.

Man United vs Liverpool Betting Tips and Predictions: Man United

If you’re a Manchester United fan you’re not going to like this next part, just have a gander at the amount of injured players receiving treatment at the moment; David de Gea, Mason Greenwood, Diogo Dalot, Victor Lindelof, Jesse Lingard, Paul Pogba, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Phil Jones, Luke Shaw, Anthony Martial and Eric Bailly. Poor Ole can’t get a break these days and Liverpool will be licking their lips at the prospects of this match.

It’s not all bad news though, Pogba, Martial, Shaw should return, Eric Bailly could be fit too. David de Gea limped off in Spain’s draw away to Norway, we’ll know in the coming days if he’ll be back. The biggest worry for Man United though is their form of late. United haven’t won a Premier League match since beating Leicester 1-0 at home on September 14th. Their only other victory this season in the league was against Chelsea on the opening day where they won 4-0. Since then they’ve lost to Crystal Palace at home and both West Ham and Newcastle away. They’ve drawn three matches, Wolves, Southampton and Arsenal.

The Red Devils are struggling in front of goal to make matters worse, they’ve only scored three goals in their last three home matches, of their last five matches in the league both home and away they’ve only scored three as well. If Matial does return here against Liverpool he’ll be a big additional to a team desperate for goals. Paul Pogba too can of course be a threat, depending though on whether the good Pogba turns up or the bad one.

We gave the injury list earlier, the only one we know for sure that won’t play is Jesse Lingard who won’t be back until later in the month.

Man United vs Liverpool Betting Tips and Predictions: Liverpool

Top of the league Liverpool head to Old Trafford eight points ahead of the chasing pack, they’ve not lost a Premier League match now since Man City beat them in January of this year. We have seen though that teams can get at Liverpool. Napoli beat them 2-0 in the Champions League, RB Salzburg gave them a scare at Anfield bringing it from 3-0 to 3-3 before Mo Salah settled the match 4-3. Against Leicester and Sheffield United both teams targeted Trent Alexander-Arnold, getting the ball in behind the young defender and trying to get at Liverpool down the right side.

It nearly paid off for both teams and Liverpool aren’t winning by huge margins anymore, of their last five wins, only one, against MK Dons, has been by more than a goal. If you’d been betting against Liverpool on the asian handicap markets you’d have a tidy profit over the past few matches.

Liverpool though have gone from the blood and thunder, heavy-metal football of a few years ago, they’re not afraid of the dark arts now, time wasting, cynical fouls to stop attacks, Klopp has made them win smarter rather than just trying to outscore opponents in all-or-nothing matches.

In team news Salah has a slight injury but should be back on time. There are rumours that goalkeeper Alisson will return too. Joel Matip is also back training but might not be back in time and Liverpool will have to go with either Dejan Lovern or Joe Gomez beside Virgil van Dijk at the back.

Man United vs Liverpool Betting Tips and Predictions: Tips and Predictions

The Asian Handicap line opened at 0.5 and has moved to 0.75, with the market fancying the home side on this handicap, United +0.75 currently priced at 1.91, while Liverpool -0.75 is at 2.02.

The goal line is at 2.75. Over 2.75 opened at 1.92, it’s now at 2.05.

Always a tough match to call, we’d like to tip Liverpool but the odds do not reflect their record at Old Trafford at all and Man United facing Liverpool is not the same as Man United facing anyone else. There’s very little value to be found in big matches like these, but the stats indicate we’ll see a low scoring match so we’re going with Under 2.5 at 2.06.
