Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid welcome Maurizio Sarri’s Juventus to the Wanda Metropolitano on Wednesday night for their Group D Champions League match. Atletico beat the Old Lady 2-0 here last season, can they repeat it?

Atletico Madrid vs Juventus Betting Tips and Predictions: Atletico Madrid

Atleti’s season had been going swimmingly until last weekend when they surprisingly lost 2-0 away to Real Sociedad. What was worse though was that the away side only managed two shots on goal for the entire 90 minutes. Simeone always seems to have a crisis of conscience at the start of every season, he tries to get his team to play attractive football when we all know that Atletico Madrid are supposed to be a master of the dark arts kind of football team, an Italian football team playing in La Liga.

They got the better of Juventus in the Champions League here last season, thanks to goals from Jose Gimenez and Diego Godin. Of course, Antoine Griezmann has left for Barcelona and Simeone has passed the torch to young Portuguese striker Joao Felix, who has one goal in his four appearances. Of course he’s in good company with the likes of Diego Costa and Alvaro Morata in the strikeforce too. Morato should miss this match and while Costa is doubtful he should make it back in time. Goalkeeper Jan Oblak missed the loss to Sociedad and may not be back, so check the injury news closer to kick off.

Atletico Madrid vs Juventus Betting Tips and Predictions: Juventus

Juventus played out a frustrating 0-0 away to Fiorentina last weekend, they were pretty bad, not getting a shot on target until the 60th minute and as per usual rather than blame his team Sarri blamed something else. This time it was the weather, Sarri seemed surprised that it tends to be warm in Italy in the afternoon. He also had a moan about having to use three substitutes.

On the plus side, Juve played out a wonderful match against Napoli before the international break, winning 4-3, but they needed a disastrous Kalidou Koulibaly own goal in the 90th minute to grab the three points. At the moment in Italy, the press are calling them ‘neither meat, nor fish’ meaning it’s a team without identity, not an Allegri team, not a Sarri team. It’s obvious that they need more matches before they adapt to how Sarri wants to them to play, no doubt though, he has the best squad in the league and one of the best in Europe and once it clicks it will be something to behold.

Injury wise, Juve are in a bit of trouble. Douglas Costa, Miralem Pjanic and Danilo all limped off against Fiorentina but the good news is that Christiano Ronaldo and Gonzalo Higuain seem to be getting along nicely with Higuain playing a little further back to allow space and to hold up the ball for Ronaldo. It’s worth mentioning too that Ronaldo has 22 goals in 31 matches against Atletico.

Atletico Madrid vs Juventus Betting Tips and Predictions: Tips and Predictions

The Asian Handicap line opened at 0 favouring the away side at 1.91. It has moved to 0.25 though with Juventus -0.25 priced at 1.82.

The goal line opened at 2.25 and has fallen to 2, meaning the market isn’t expecting a goal fest. However the 2 line has seen movement as well, opening at 1.90, it’s now at 1.85, we’re getting on Over 2 goals before it falls any further. While the stats might look against us here both of these teams have plenty of strikeforce and talent and of course neither will want to get off to a losing start in the Champions League.
