Man Utd vs Liverpool preview: Betting Tips, Latest Odds, Team News and Predictions

21st February 2019

Previews

Liverpool look to move one step close to the Premier League title as they travel to Old Trafford to face their fiercest rivals Manchester United.

United will be desperate to deny the Reds their 19th league title and a win here would go a long way to doing just that.

Latest Odds

Despite not losing a league game under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer yet Manchester United are outsiders for this match at 2.1 (3.00) Liverpool are priced at 5/4 (2.25) whilst the draw is available to back at 5/2 (3.50).

Team News

Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard are still out with injury heading into this match, other than that United have a fully fit squad.

Virgil van Dijk should return for Liverpool as he missed the Champions League clash with Bayern Munich due to suspension. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Joe Gomes and Dejan Lovren remain sidelined for Liverpool. Jordan Henderson came off injured against Bayern so that situation will be monitored.

Preview

The last time these two sides met the game ended 3-1 in Liverpool’s favour and Jose Mourinho lost his job. Since then Manchester United haven’t lost a league game under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the Norwegian looks in prime position to get the job on a permanent basis.

United most recently beat Chelsea in the FA Cup in another dominant display by midfield maestro Paul Pogba. Since the turn of the year it would be hard to argue against Pogba being the best player in the league and Liverpool will have to deal with him if they are to get anything here.

Liverpool are still slight favourites to win the Premier League but a slip up here allows Man City to have their fate in their own hands. No matter the result here Liverpool will be one the same amount of games as City and the title race will become a head to head battle until the end of the season.

The Reds were in action against Bayern Munich in midweek and they looked wasteful going forward, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane failed to convert chances throughout the match whilst Roberto Firmino was very quiet. They will have to hope for better performances if they are to overcome the Red Devils.

Betting tips

In a derby game form can go completely out of the window but with both teams having so much to play for calmer heads should prevail and they should be able to play their natural game rather than getting caught up in the event.

Liverpool have let their foot off the gas in the title race with two draws in their last three league games a loss could be coming their way.

Manchester United look very appealing at a price of 2/1 (3.00). If you were to couple this up with over 1.5 goals. If you want an alternative bet under 2.5 goals could be a good shout with the over 2.5 bet only landing in 33.33% of games at Old Trafford this season according to BetDynamo’s team stats.
