Chelsea vs Man Utd preview: Betting Tips, Latest Odds, Team News and Predictions

15th February 2019

Previews

With both teams seemingly out of the title race Manchester United and Chelsea will be hoping to thwart Man City’s chances of winning a domestic treble by winning the FA Cup.

Chelsea are still in the hunt for the double as they prepare to face Pep Guardiola’s side in the Carabao Cup final.

Latest Odds

Chelsea are favourites to win this tie at Stamford bridge at odds of 21/20 (2.05). Manchester United are available at 27/10 (3.70) and the draw can be backed at the same price of 27/10(3.70).

Team News

Both teams were in European action this week but Chelsea rested a number of key players which could give them the edge in this fixture.

The good news for United is that Paul Pogba’s red card in the Champions League will not effect his eligibility in this fixture so the Frenchman is expected to start here. However, they have been dealt a last-minute injury blow with the news that Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard are out for between two to three weeks.

Chelsea also have a fully available squad, Eden Hazard and Gonzalo Higuain should start this one after being rested against Malmo.

One man who may not play though is Marcos Alonso, Mauricio Sarri apparently told the Spaniard after their 6-0 defeat to Man City “You should find another job because you’re useless at football.” So he is unlikely to select him for such an important match again.

Preview

This match could be the story of two manager’s jobs. Mauricio Sarri is feeling the pressure after the embarrassment at the Etihad and the bookies now make him odds-on favourite to be the next manager to lose his job, a win here would alleviate some of that speculation.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tasted defeat as Manchester United manager for the first time against PSG midweek and that has left many United fans questioning whether or not he should be given the role permanently despite his incredible start to life at Old Trafford.

Both managers may feel that their jobs are on the line dependant on their success in this competition. If Sarri can win this alongside the League Cup then he surely can’t be sacked whereas Solskjaer qualifying for the Champions League as well as winning the FA Cup should see him given a permanent role at the Theatre of dreams.

When Solskjaer’s United have come up against big teams they have played fast counter-attacking football and that could be the order of the day again here at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea will no doubt dominate possession at home but with their defensive frailties on show last week Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford could have a field day going up against the Blues’ back line.

Sarri’s men will get a lot of shots on goal but if David De Gea is on top form they will find it hard to score. Gonzalo Higuain’s two goals so far for his new club have come against Huddersfield and this could be the game where he proves himself against a top club. The Argentine will get chances but he will have to be clinical if he is to beat the Manchester United goalkeeper.

Predictions

There is nothing to suggest Manchester United will dip in form after their first defeat in 2019 against a PSG side which would dismantle most teams in Europe.

United have been incredible since Jose Mourinho’s departure and after Chelsea were demolished last week they should be able to pick the holes in this Chelsea defence. Therefore odds of 27/10(3.70) on a United win offers incredible value.

Another good bet would be Manchester United to win with both teams to score at 11/2 (6.50) as you can see from BetDynamo’s team stats Chelsea only fail to score in around 23% of their home games whilst United are yet to fail to score away from home this season, couple this up with the fact United are in much better form than Chelsea then that 11/2 shot looks like a decent bet.
